Care Instructions
After Use
Always rinse with water or lukewarm water and carefully clean with a clean sponge without using detergent. Afterwards, wipe dry with a cloth. This will help prevent food odours and stains from seeping in, as well as protect against blackening (mould). Leftover food particles can lead to mould growth. If heavily dirtied, use a diluted neutral detergent. If the detergent is undiluted, the odour may soak into the wood.
Please Note: Prolonged soaking in water can accelerate the ageing of the wood, leading to deformation and discolouration.
Afterwards, ensure it is thoroughly dried in a well-ventilated, shaded area before storing. Make sure the joints of the wood are completely dry, as dampness can lead to mould. If storing for a long period, wrap it in absorbent, unprinted paper such as kraft paper or a paper bag, and choose a well-ventilated location. Avoid using plastic bags as they restrict airflow and can cause mould.
・When Resin (Sap) Oozes Out
If you notice a sticky substance appearing despite proper storage, it is likely resin (sap) naturally seeping from the wood. This is harmless and, in fact, the presence of resin indicates that the wood is strong. Resin can be wiped off with a cloth soaked in disinfecting alcohol (ethanol)*. If a large amount of resin appears and cannot be removed with this method, you can carefully sand it off using fine sandpaper, making sure not to damage the wood.
・If Mould Appears
Soak in water left over from washing rice for 24 hours and scrub with a brush. This method will usually remove mould for non-severe cases. However, please note that due to the nature of wooden products, it is difficult to completely prevent or remove black mould caused by water**.
* Disinfecting alcohol (ethanol) is available at pharmacies
**Due to the nature of unpainted wooden products, it cannot be made completely waterproof like metal or plastic products.
