Based on the original artifact “Kirikodama Crystal” excavated in Okuizumo, the Kirikodama series is the modern take on the ancient artifact and reinvents it into stylish accessories that encapsulate the rich history of Japan.
The crystal possesses a shape of a hexagonal prism that is thicker at the midsection and is frosted to give a soft glow under light. Coupled with a 45cm long standard-length chain, Kirikodama becomes a versatile accessory that elevates your look by accentuating the décolletage.

Crystals have been widely coveted as jewelry in Japan since as far as 1,700 years ago. Reminisce the great history of Japan with these stylish pieces of accessories that form a linkage between you and the past.

【Izumo Kiriko 出雲きりこ】

Combining the old and new, originating from the best artisanship in Izumo, Shimane

Izumo Kiriko is a fresh new take on the traditional Japanese craft of Kiriko, a type of cut-glass artistry dating back centuries in ancient Japan. Made with modern techniques on the same type of gemstones that were used in the past, it is more than a mere accessory with beautiful motifs. It is a testament to the evolution of Japanese traditional art and Japanese craftsmanship.

The reinvented craft is the brainchild of Menoya Co., Ltd, a business founded in 1901 that aims to preserve local agate processing by redefining its purpose to better suit ever-changing trends.

From choosing the finest material to carving out the design, every single piece is created with love and care from start to finish. Through applying new techniques to the centuries-old artistry, Izumo Kiriko is a stunning display of combining the past and present, a love letter from the artisans to their predecessors. By continuing to hone their skills, the artisans of Menoya strive to become part of a legacy that transcends generations.

「Kirikodama切子玉」
Excavated along with important artifacts such as magatama and kudatama from Kofun (ancient burial mounds) in Okuizumo-cho, Kirikodama is a type of cut-glass accessory in ancient Japan. It is usually a hexagonal prism that is thicker in the middle and is made of crystals like glass or agate.
With the help of improved techniques and seasoned artisans, Menoya is able to breathe new life into this traditional handcraft by incorporating it into contemporary designs.
